Review of Breaking and Entering (2006) by Seth R — 30 Jan 2010
Forget for a moment that this film boasts Vera Farmiga, Juliette Binoche, AND Robin Wright Penn looking as beautiful as she ever has on film. Anthony Minghella has written a complex, politically astute drama about the lives and loves of contemporary London, with Jude Law playing the central character of a developer/architect who has master plans for the city as a whole but whose personal life is a bundle of contradictions, miscommunications, and trouble waiting to happen.
As usual, Law is a bit too much of a charmer as he floats through these alternate realities with nary a scratch, but as flawed as it is, the film is in love with its location and its actors, also including the wonderful English characxter actor Ray Winstone.
