Review of Breakin' (1984) by Commish G — 15 Jun 2010
On a whim I netflixed Breakin' to see if it was as good as I had remembered it being back in 1984.
.....
It wasn't.
Granted some of the dancing, especially the popping and locking, was pretty good, but it's sort of like seeing wushu from the 60's vs. wushu of the 80's. I think some of the older breakers might have had better flavor than the one's today (which could probably be debated) but the over-all skill level and physical ability wasn't as high as the people today.
And don't get me started on the acting. It made the acting in You Got Served look Shakespearean in comparison. Any more wooden and the actors would have had beavers chomping on their legs. Granted, they weren't actors, they were dancers, but still. yeeeesh.
I could only get about 3/4 of the way through the movie before I had to take it out and put You Got Served in and jump through all the dancing sequences, just to get the memory of Breakin' out of my head.
