Review of Breaker Morant (1980) by Kelly Y — 29 May 2008
Quasi historical rendering of events from the Boer War, loosely based on "Scapegoats of Empire". Glosses over some of the more morally ambiguous aspects of that conflict but puts forward a stark picture of man versus the machine of government (as represented by the military).
I have been told that this is a quintessential "guy movie" (war, courtrooms, honor, guns, etc.) and I will accept that. Guys, you'll be crying at the end, trust me. Not to spoil it but apparently the last scene was ad libbed and as fate would have it mirrored actual events.
