Mel Gibson more than delivers the goods as both actor and director in a rousing epic. It doesn't matter if liberties have been taken with it's subject, all that matters is that you buy into the story it presents, and it keeps you gripped throughout it's epic length.
One of the very best historical movies, with superb cinematography and skilfully filmed brutal battle scenes.
