Review of Brave (2012) by Eryka D — 20 Nov 2014
I would call Brave one of Pixar's least-interesting movies, if not THE least-interesting, and I'm including the first Cars movie in that statement. Yes, I'm going that far. It comes off as something that probably needed a lot more work in the writing stage to make it more interesting.
It reminds me of the stories that have been told about the making of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and how it took them years to come up with a story that was acceptable enough to make a movie out of.
Brave feels like one of those early ideas that was never shot down and got into development somehow. It's a perfectly fine movie, but is perfectly mediocre in final form. It never really had me emotionally or kept me interested enough to be invested in it, or its characters.
Sure, the lovely Kelly Macdonald voices the young girl, but it's not enough to make me fall in love with the movie. It gets a straight C from me, overall, and nothing else.
