Review of Brainscan (1994) by Cassie S — 10 May 2013
Undeservedly maligned. It's stupid, yes, no denying. The acting is terrible all around ('cept for Frank Langella), the technological stylization is at least a couple years behind the curve and is several notches above over the top, and the villain is more often annoying than anything else.
But despite all that, the story is still kinda well told. The structure is inventive and the pacing is really quite good and the use of gnarly rock music is more effective than any other such movie of the era that I can think of (there's a damned Butthole Surfers song in it, man).
You might find yourself enjoying it more than you think you might have.
