Review of Brainscan (1994) by Christopher S — 06 Sep 2011
An excellent novel concept that unfortunately hasn't aged well. If you can overlook the poor effects and bad dialogue to the heart of the film, you can see the ideal makings of a good horror story that, as a complete departure to current trends, has very little blood in it at all.
The ideas behind the film could stand extremely well in a modern remake, and in a genre as muddy and gory as modern horror, it could present an opportunity to remember what real horror can be like.
For the actual film, I'd recommend it to the horror crowd, though if you can't stand the first 20 minutes of ancient hair-styles and teen dialogue that I'm not certain anybody ever actually used, then it might not improve. But it is a film with a strong idea, but not quite fulfilled potential.
