Review of Boyhood (2014) by Valentin G — 08 Jan 2016
A really beautiful film. "A moving 12 years epic" is the introduction phrase of Boyhood, but this is one of the least important factors in a movie so complete and well done as this.
Richard Linklater was the more attentive and committed director of 2014, also he wrote the script, and it's a work made with lots of love for cinema. This movie makes us relate it in a nice shape, without too much drama. Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette are so good and so natural in their characters and make us see, how it can deteriorate or improve the relationship between separated parents. Ellar Coltrane is extremely convincing from his childhood to adulthood.
At times the pace of the film becomes a bit overwhelming, but it's necessary because projected us the childhood and adolescence of a person.
Not everything is rosy in Boyhood, my big problem was the end, I think the best way to end this film was in the part where Mason is driving along the road with the song "Hero" in the background, but unfortunately that's not the final scene.
In conclusion, this is a jewel of the seventh art, although only shines in the hands of those who can understand it.
