Review of Boogie Nights (1997) by Damjan R — 17 Apr 2014
Boogie Nights weaves a vast tapestry of interesting characters, while P.T. Anderson unwavering look at stardom with all its pitfalls. The cast is amazing, led by Wahlberg, but features notable performances from almost every principal.
The story is perhaps everything you might expect, with not many surprises, but the way its delivered makes up for any predictability. Anderson's use of longer scenes and longer takes doesn't let the characters escape the viewer and given the world it portrays, they kind of mirror the way they are used in the porn industry, as shown in the film.
The soundtrack is a little crowded with perhaps too much music, but some songs really hit the spot. All in all, it's recommended, because the talent on display is just to good to ignore.
