Review of Boogeyman (2012) by Jarrett M — 12 Aug 2012
Boogeyman is a film that I didn't expect that much from, and maybe that lead to my slightly favourable opinion of the film. Then again, the film generates a decent amount of tension through the early going, but that wanes as the movie progresses until the climax.
By that time, any palpable sense of terror is dissolved by sub par CGI. The story is passable, and if I'm not mistaken, hasn't really been done before. Or at least hasn't been done to death.
The writing is ok, as is the acting. I'm not sure why, but this film reminded me of Insidious, and while Boogeyman doesn't have the oppresive atmosphere of tension, it also doesn't have the ridiculous curve ball of an ending either.
A decent, but not terribly memorable film. Sadly, such is the case with most modern horror. A mild recommendation. You could do much worse.
