Review of Body Snatchers (1993) by Michael N — 06 Aug 2010
Overall, Ferrara's Body Snatchers is a disappointing and unnecessary remake. Featuring writing credits from Larry Cohen and Stuart Gordon and being direct by Abel (The Driller Killer, Bad Lieutenant) Ferrara, one might expect great things from Body Snatchers but it ends up merely rehashing the stories and themes of Don Siegel's 1956 original and Philip Kaufman's perhaps even more brilliant 1978 remake.
The one interesting point of Ferra's version is how it relates the conformist aspects of the Body Snatchers to military ideology. Aside from that, it adds nothing truly interesting to the story, but it does still remain some creepy and entertaining throughout despite being almost completely derivative.
