Review of Blues Brothers 2000 (1998) by Dean L — 25 Aug 2008
In many ways, this is a needless, ill-advised and too-long-delayed sequel to a classic musical action-comedy that is impossible to equal, much less surpass. It desperately misses the spirit of Belushi.
..he was unpredictable, a loose cannon and gave the original it's raffish pizazz and blue-collar grittiness, in addition to most of the biggest laughs. The production is way too glitzy and the story-line is a pale imitation of the first, attempting to copy some of the big action set-pieces (namely, most of the car-crash mayhem) and marking time between the musical numbers.
HAVING SAID THAT...this film is reasonably entertaining BECAUSE of the great music contained within, with an all-star cast of old blues/funk/soul stalwarts delivering the goods with a few show-stopping numbers.
Don't expect the greatness of the first one and you'll probably enjoy it okay.
