Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Peter A — 26 Mar 2011
What horrors lurk beneath small town suburbia? This is the question this film examines and lets you know that you should be careful in the search because you might find out. Packed full of surrealist imagery, this is a violent and often depraved movie that nevertheless is a genre defining moment in film-making.
Dennis Hopper and Isabella Rosselini deserve a special mention in the way they totally inhabit their characters and make you fear for their sanity. The 50s soundtrack only adds to the strange anachronistic atmosphere and lends an otherworldly quality to one of the best films of the eighties.
