David Lynch is one of Hollywood's most bizarre directors. with films like Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Dune, Mulholland Drive, and Lost Highway under his belt, I found myself at home back in July with Lynch's 1986 thriller "Blue Velvet" in my hands. so I popped it into my DVD player and this is what I thought of it.

I was shocked by this film at first. It literally scared me, mainly by Dennis Hopper's incredible performance as the drug-addicted sadist Frank Booth. the more I thought about the film, the more I liked it. what really amazed me about the film was the small-town setting and it seems to me that it could represent how evil deeds know no boundaries.

The main storyline is about a boy named Jeffery (Kyle Maclachlan)who finds a severed human ear in a field. as he investigates he gets help from the town police detective's daughter, Sandy Williams, and becomes involved with a disturbed nightclub singer, Dorthy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini), and a drug-addicted sadist, Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper).

This film is one that requires a lot of thought before you give it a final verdict. I consider this film a masterpiece of American cinema and recommend this film to everyone who loves strange and bizarre films.

The film also changes the way you look at music, for example there is a scene where Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" is lip synced to the very creepy Ben (Dean Stockwell), and the film changes the way you listen to Bobby Vinton's song of the same name.

All in all this is a stunning achievement as well as a haunting one too.
