Review of Blue Valentine (2010) by Jillian R — 17 Aug 2012
Aside from its great acting, the films premise suffers tremendously with a pointless story that merely shows what happens when love falls apart and nothing more. Maybe a lesson could be gleaned from its story about the importance of keeping marriage strong but the film never builds beyond the fact that the couples love fell apart and became unrepairable. Maybe it's a lesson to us that marriage can be tough and that it takes work to make it succeed but the story was still pointless. Moreover, the films bad cinematography and annoying score doesn't help make the film much better. Probably the only thing well done is the emotional tension between the two characters but nothing more.
Great acting but bad story makes this film anything but memorable.
