"Blue Valentine" is a harsh reminder that sometimes marriages can start out happy and not work out. It's a heartbreaking real romance movie that is so realistic that it feels genuinely sad.
Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams give outstanding powerhouse performances that carry this film to greatness. It's a slow-paced movie, but I certainly wouldn't call it boring. It kept my interest all the way through and it was tough to see this brutally honest and sad movie unfold.
The film is also directed very well and the camera is utilized in a neat way when showing the contrast between events in the past and present. It's a powerful movie with an important message that is bolstered by strong performances that are among both Gosling and Williams' best.
