Review of Blue Like Jazz (2012) by Liz W — 10 Apr 2012
I saw this film at an advance screening a few weeks ago, and was pleasantly surprised! The craftsmanship of the movie was excellent, plus I was moved by the story and accompanying characters. Whether you are a person of faith, or not, the questions the main character Don struggles with in the movie are ones that will resonate with many people - forgiving those who have hurt you, running from your past, questioning who you are, and who God may or may not be.
As someone who's in the film industry, I love the story of how Blue Like Jazz almost didn't make it, but was then rescued by a monumental Kickstarter campaign. The effort was worth it, as Blue Like Jazz is a well-crafted, inspiring film that poetically raises questions that are on the minds of many.
To use words from the book, "Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself." I, for one, love this movie, and I encourage you to bring your friends to see it on opening weekend - April 13th!
