Review of Blue Like Jazz (2012) by Kimberly W — 12 Apr 2012
We all show up in Blue Like Jazz - from people who hate religion, to people who could care less about God, to people who are so pious that they make us hate ourselves. Like all coming-of-age stories, the movie is ultimately about the character finding himself.
Don's journey culminates in a final scene so moving that it's as if the movie was created just to tell that story. The film feels like a confession from all of us who have acted in ignorance or hate, from misguided faith or the lack of any faith at all - we're sorry that we get life so wrong sometimes, but thanks for showing up.
