Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Christian John V — 17 Feb 2014
Genius director Woody Allen has made another gem in this wonderful study of a narcissistic and opportunistic woman who went down the social ladder and went insane after her husband was incarcerated due to financial scams (American Hustle, anyone?).
Cate Blanchett is brilliant (as always) as the fallen socialite Jasmine while the supporting cast (especially the always reliable Sally Hawkins) gives her enough support in order for the film to work without overshadowing Blanchett.
Well-written and well-acted, this is one of Allen's best and one of the best films of 2013 and is a concrete proof why Cate Blanchett SHOULD win the Best Actress Oscar next month. Watch!
