Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Tom W — 02 Mar 2014
Blue Jasmine is such an interesting film in that it has that typical Woody Allen up-beat lively feel from a tempo, visual, and musical stand point; however, from a tonal standpoint, the film definitely takes a darker stance.
..it definitely calls into question and challenges how we as people going about our everyday lives perceive the world around us...do we strive to be the best that we can be on an everyday basis, or do we settle with what we think we are merely capable of and who's love do we think we deserve.
....OR if you're happy with where you are, does it really matter if you have settled or are underachieving?...the film also touches on the detriments that mental illness can have on someones life, which was a pleasant undertone.
...HOWEVER, the biggest and best thing about this film was Cate Blanchett...she is absolutely fantastic from the first second on camera to the very last frame, and it is easy to see how she swept the awards for best actress.
...overall, Blue Jasmine was a good film that had some fun comedic moments with some thoughtful undertones that hopefully get you thinking about where you are in your life and how you got there....and to top it off, you get to watch a powerhouse performance from one of the greatest ladies of Hollywood.
...good deal.
