Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Frank C — 02 Jan 2015
There's something about a Woody Allen film that just makes it so delightful to watch. While Cate Blanchett steals the show with her neurotic Jasmine Francis, every single character in the Blue Jasmine has a captivating story all to themselves.
I would love to delve further into the life of someone like Chili or the son Danny or the creepy Dr. Flicker. However, we are let in just enough into the lives of each of the secondary characters to frame the trajectory of Jasmine's life.
The acting performances are splendid, as Blanchett and Hawkins are fully deserving of their awards buzz. Credit must also go to a strong supporting cast including Alec Baldwin (who's pretty much Jack Lemmon), Louis CK (he's everywhere now!), Bobby Cannavale, and even Andrew Dice Clay.
Throw in a delightful jazz soundtrack that is one of the best compilations of music for a film I've seen, and you have another lovely film that shows Woody Allen has truly rediscovered his form.
