Review of Blue Chips (1994) by Jennifer A — 25 Mar 2006
I'm beginning the rather lengthy task of entering into the database every film I have seen, at least those I have a decent memory of. Some may have the briefest of reviews while many will just have a number. Those films that I consider personal favorites and/or those that have some historical signficance I will add later when I have time for more lengthy reviews.
Con Air, directed by Simon West, is a star-studded action thriller about a group of the world's most notorious convicts being transported by plane who manage to hijack it and make a run for freedom. The film is fairly enertaining at times (mostly due to it's unusual cast for an action flick) but too often WAY over-the-top and ridiculous. The cast includes Nicholas Cage, John Malkovich, John Cusack, Ving Rhames, Steve Buscemi, and Mykelti Williamson.
Bed of Roses, directed by Michael Goldenberg, is a romantic drama about a business executive named Lisa (Mary Stuart Masterson) and a flower shop owner named Lewis (Christian Slater). It never really tugged at my strings.
Space Jam, directed by Joe Pytka, is Looney Tunes mets the NBA. Being a Looney Tunes fan I was disappointed with this film. Those NBA fans may enjoy it better. Features Michael Jordan.
Blue Chips, directed by William Friedkin, is a pretty decent film that examines the crumbling ethics of college basketball. Nick Nolte is very good as the college coach. The film also features Shaquille O'Neal, Bobby Knight, Mary McDonnell, and JT Walsh.
Truth or Consequences, NM, directed by Keifer Sutherland, is yet another very bad Tarantino rip-off. Stars Kiefer Sutherland, Vincent Gallo, Kevin Pollak and Mykelti Williamson.
