Review of Blow Out (1981) by Robert C — 10 Mar 2009
While a few years past a time where it would have found a spot among the likes of such other paranoia thrillers as The Parallax View, The Conversation, and Three Days of the Condor, DePalma's tale is lean and taut.
Travolta plays a role unlike his prior parts and while the pre-climax (him recovering just in time to get to Penn's Landing) is a plot hole that you can drive a jeep through and its epilogue seems to suggest that he kept some necessary evidence. All in all, a film which merits mention and is among DePalma's best. Too bad he felt a need to offer up a virtual rehashing of it with Body Double.
