Review of Blow Out (1981) by Alec B — 04 Aug 2015
An endlessly inventive thriller and, unlike so many other conspiracy movies, it never collapses under the weight of increasingly convoluted plot details. DePalma is much more concerned with the 'how' rather than the 'why'.
The motivations of the conspirators don't matter, but how Travolta's character uncovers the assassination attempt and his desire to expose it does. It makes for hypnotic viewing and it may have one of the most cynical endings ever put on film.
