Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Eshaan L — 21 Aug 2009
For the first Coen brothers movie, Blood Simple has some very intriguing spots and is worth a one-time watch. I will not, however, say it's anything special.
The performances by all are pretty strong, there are some unique dark human decisions, and the story is an easy follow. I felt there wasn't enough energy in it. There were about 5-10 really tense minutes and the rest just seemed to be filler to move the story along; nothing substantial visually nor audibly.
I might be pretty hard on this film because it wasn't a total piece of shit, but nowhere near an 80%+.
