Often brilliant suspense/horror film with just a little of the dark humor that inhabits later Coen Brothers' efforts. Could have had a fine career as "masters of suspense" types if they followed this path, but we moviegoers are fortunate that Ethan and Joel used their debut as the start of a twisty and often wickedly funny cinematic journey instead.
This also started the on and off screen partnership between McDormand and Joel Coen (now married for 26 years), so hooray for this movie on several levels!
