Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Ed Fucking H — 04 Nov 2010
The Cohen Brothers debut see's them at their most compelling and primitive. Yeah, a lot of the ideas used in this movie were better fleshed out when they pulled those tricks out in later movies, but this is where those idea's come from.
Fargo and No Country for Old Men are easily the most recognizable relatives to Blood Simple, but those films both lack the primitivism of this one. Less is indeed more and the atmosphere and mood set are undeniable.
This is the birthplace of the Cohens brand of Neo Noir and long before it became common place and expected from them. MUST SEE.
