Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Ojas V — 06 Nov 2010
An early film noir by the Coen brothers, this is a chilling, suspenseful tale of betrayal. Set in the dusty Texas landscape, nearly every moment is filled with quiet dread. The Coens are famous for their meticulously framed shots, and perhaps at times everything can feel a bit too mechanical.
..including a really annoying score and piano riff. Dan Hedaya is menacing as ever, and Frances Mcdormand is great as the innocent young wife. The film is a bit slow in the beginning, but picks up near the end.
