Review of Blood for Dracula (1974) by Rachna M — 09 Sep 2009
Better than it's companion piece, but still saddled with a lethargic pace and some unspeakably bad acting.
Points in its favour come from the extraordinary production design and score, and Udo Kier's portrayal of the Count, in particular his scenes with Otto, where he comes across like a grumpy old drag queen. The Roman Polanski cameo is fun but pointless.
As with Flesh for Frankenstein, Joe Dallesandro, still not bothering to disguise his Brooklyn accent, is a statuesque presence, but has to utter some highly objectionable dialogue about rape which may leave many viewers cold.
I would cautiously recommend this-be prepared for longeurs.
