Review of Blood Beach (1980) by Film C — 05 Jun 2015
This movie has an incredible jazz-synth score from Gil Melle, legendary saxophonist jazzman and inventor of several electronic instruments. The film takes us back to the more relaxed era of the late 1970's and the cinematography is done in a welcome, easy-on-the-eyes style which is contrary to today's hyperactive CGI.
The rose-tinted camera lenses used hearken us back to long, lazy beach summers. The story has suspense and the acting is fine. Burt Young is a standout and the two leads, the late David Huffman andthe pretty Mariana Hill, are believable as ex-lovers reunited over the case of Hill's character's mother's strange disappearance.
If you appreciate a good retro-horror movie and unique instrumental soundtracks, you won't be disappointed. Five stars for its overall style and decent storyline.
