Review of Blindspotting (2018) by Steve H — 31 Jul 2018
Takes on many issues of the day including gentrification, race, firearms, law enforcement abuse of power, language/culture, etc, creating the full gamut of emotional responses in the process. Listed as a comedy at my theater but this film easily fits into the category of drama, suspense, satire and biopic (Oakland as the subject) as well.
The two leads were excellent in their roles but I felt the story became a bit contrived at times in an effort to generate perspectives regarding the large number of important social issues that are under examination.
Debated between 3.5* and 4* and while admirably attempting to do quite a lot here, it is my opinion that they definitely got there.
