Review of Blade Runner (1982) by Movie V — 09 Oct 2017

Do not read unless you have seen this picture, and/or want to have your fun ruined. Elements of plot are revealed, and criticized.

What a bore! Running almost 3 hours, with barely enough plot to sustain a movie half the length, this ponderous slow-moving sequel has a annoying monochromatic soundscape and plenty to dislike. What kind of dystopian future features 1950's pinups and school girl porn as the only options? Where's the diversity? Where's the imagination? This was a cardboard world of cartoons reflecting a narrow hetero white male fantasy, which might satisfy an adolescent or Weinstein lecher, but has little to offer anyone else. Sex is the primary appetite that seems to drive this dull future, which caters to almost no one. Lots of gratuitous female nudity, with holograms being the summit of advertising in this ridiculous future. Women are either nubile bodies, child-like creatures to protect, or breeders. Oh, there's a police woman, but she's really a stock character. When K reports that he took care of the problem, she's like "Ok". No proof needed? No questions about what was found? This is a future where eyeballs are bagged for evidence, and there's nothing further? That's a plot problem. So is K getting out of San Diego when his ride was wrecked-- how did that magically happen? Why did the junk yard look like a scene from a mad-max road-runner cartoon? Why did that fight scene in water go on so long, with no pay off, and why was the water, in a polluted future, crystal clear? Why was the snow pure white? Why didn't some scavenger cash in that dead tree? Makes no sense.

This was a tedious, boring moving, with nothing to recommend. Save your money, save your time, go watch the original and imagine your own sequel. It will likely be less disappointment. Maybe that's the bigger sin than the boredom from this crapper.
