Review of Blackhat (2015) by Zachary C — 09 Jun 2015
Well I like how they tried to incorporate Asian Americans into such a film especially Asian males. And it is quite a relief to see or rather not see the stereotypical Asian kung fu master. Nice to see Lee Hom in such a film.
The issue I have, however, is how they continued with the plot and how they utilized the characters and the scenes. Most of the scenes seemed pointless and irrelevant to where the story was going. Character development was weak and the writing the dialogue was sub par. It also seemed as if though the female lead's character was only there to fill a need for a lack of females and also to fill Hemsworth's character's other half of the bed. By the ending of this film I felt I already knew where it was heading good guys win bad guys die and guy gets the girl. Also I felt most of the "hacker/cyber" talk would not relate to the average person. I felt every character had some sort of "hacker blood" and just understood what was said. The average audience would not have understood most of the dialogue so again dialogue was subpar.
*Spoiler Alert / Advice for future reference.
Killing off most of the characters really loses the audiences' attention makes the audience (or me) feel there was really no point in the beginning.
