Review of Blackfish (2013) by Nick D — 12 Jan 2014
Seaworld is the villain here in a film that documents the company's knowing exploitation of Orca whales. Wisely, the company refuses to cooperate, no doubt sensing a 60-minute ambush, though by the end the documentary did feel like a video pamphlet of a group organized to bring down the company, with the filmmaker as part of the group.
Like zoos, these aquatic parks rip wild animals from their native habitats and house them inadequately. Unlike zoos, SeaWorld puts on shows involving humans, many of whom have been killed or maimed as a consequence of these practices.
Who can blame the orca whales?
