Pulpy melodrama elevated to the highest art form. Aronofsky puts the darkest vision imaginable on a familiar tale and runs with it, with unbelievable results. The finale is a cinematic treat unrivaled in its sense of pure spectacle.
Natalie Portman gives the performance of her career here, easily making this my top choice for 2010. Bravo indeed.
