Review of Black Swan (2010) by S. Edward T — 04 Oct 2013
Just watched this a second time a really noticed how Aronofsky plays with sound in this movie. He does it so effectively that you barley realize its there, and when you do you wonder why no movie before has done this.
Natalie portman earns this best actress oscar hands down. A great example of a film that shows there are still simple effective film making tricks that we haven't seen yet and that a good director will create, you dont need CGI to show us something new.
He makes viscerally feel her pain, the viewer is at the same time observing her mental state and experiencing it. A lesser movie would have made nina deteriorate for a unrealistic reason but this feels closer to reality.
Clint Mansell kills it on the soundtrack as usual. On second viewing i'm bumping it up to 5 stars.
