Review of Black Swan (2010) by Daniel G — 29 Jun 2014
Black Swan isn't just your typical ballet film. It is a dark and disturbing thriller which keeps you hooked until the end.
It starts off slow to get going but once the plot is explained it doesn't slow down. At times, scenes have the ability to confuse you as the story consists of Portman's character losing herself mentally and fails to distinguish fiction from reality, but you soon catch up with the storyline.
Even if you are not a fan of ballet, you can not deny that work that was put in by Natalie Portman and the crew. Performances are to perfection as such a fast speed that you find yourself hooked into them.
Speaking of Portman, her performance is fantastic and nothing like she usually gives the audience. Mila Kunis is also impressive, as well as the underrated Vincent Cassel. It should be worth mentioning that Winona Ryder gives out a great character in the short screen time she has.
The film might not be for everyone, especially with the topic of Ballet involved, but it should surely be enjoyable for anyone into dark dramas. You also can't fault the impressive work to have gone into it by the entire cast and crew.
