Review of Black Sunday (1960) by John P — 06 Jul 2008
Maybe I'm a generation too late to truly appreciate Mario Bava. After all, I grew up with shitty slasher movies like Scream, and when I finally did get into Italian horror, it was Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci.
I still appreciated this film for what it was, and still is: a creepy black and white thriller with scary moments directed by the master of this sort of thing: Mario Bava. It certainly hasn't aged well, but one cannot deny the style and camerawork which definitely make up for any shortcomings in plot and acting.
Well worth seeing if you like Italian horror, or horror from that era in general.
