Review of Black or White (2015) by Matthew F. J — 01 Feb 2015
This is an exceptionally intelligent movie, a court case film to put next to films such as Germany Year Zero by Rossellini or Guess Who's Coming to Dinner by Kramer. Mike binder finds here a fertile and exceptionally interesting material to built a beautiful film filled with human dilemmas and questions that matters in today's world.
Costner is once again confirming how excellent of an actor he is and Octavia spencer is exceptionally great (as always) in this film. The scenario studies various path, various options and questions a lot the thin line between prejudices, racism and intolerance.
Smartly written, beautifully shot and definitely trying to stay away from most clichés, the film turns out to be not only an amazing piece of film making but also a mirror to ourselves and our society in the 21st century.
Definitely one of the best subject exposed in a film with complexity and intelligence. Great film.
