Review of Black Narcissus (1947) by Ryan T — 09 Oct 2008
Truly a gem of Technicolor, mastery of light so convincing it makes me think of great masters such as Vermeer and others of that sort of discipline. So happy this title has been inducted into the Criterion collection and cleaned up so all can view it in its glory.
At the risk of revealing naiveté, the story told in Black Narcissus appears to be in a Victorian vein, a bit more exoticized, but probably a bit more shocking to conservative audiences of the late 1940s.
I would watch this again.
