Review of Black Death (2010) by Tero H — 15 Oct 2012
This is the best movie I have seen focused on the Burning Times that lasted from the Middle Ages until the Early Modern Era. Although the story is mostly told from the Christian point-of-view, it retains enough neutrality to make it a very good effort at reproducing the historical setting of the Pagan genocide. Many of the witches were real and not a figment of their executioner's imagination. I was really dissatisfied that the film made the Pagan Witch community into unbelieving atheists. Medieval Witches worshiped Lord Satan, the God of Nature, and they were not atheists. Atheist Satanic Witches don't occur until the 20th century, although there are still many believing theistic Satanic Witches that still worship our Lord Satan.
I think the movie succeeds in showing the historical difficulties our Western Civilization has had with the coexistence of differing religions. Overall, a great movie that is grisly, pertinent, and historical.
