Review of Birth (2004) by Jeff T — 12 Jul 2007
I was afraid this would be another creepy wannabe artistic nicole kidman movie a la Fur, but the storyline seemed so compelling I gave up my better judgment and watched it anyway, only to realize it was only slightly better than fur.
grr. this movie wanted so badly to be artistic, which was especially apparent in the 5 minute shot of nicole kidman's face doing nothing while opera music played in the background *yawn*. the end was also particularly bad, her running to the beach in the last shot was obviously a purely aesthetic choice since it had nothing to do with the plot and there were no prior hints that they lived anywhere near the coast.
I appreciate the effort to leave it open ended in order to allow us to develop our own theories, but the plot holes were a bit too gaping to be effective.
