Review of Billy Liar (1963) by Patrick D — 11 Aug 2009
*** (out of four).
The first half seems a bit forced and a little silly, but as the film goes it gains depth and ends up saying quite a bit about people who cannot deal with the real world.
Tom Coutenay is a young man who envisions himself in various worlds, but he doesn't know how to deal with his reallife situations, so he makes up things. Julie Christie is warm and radiant in her film debut.
