Review of Billy Liar (1963) by Edward O — 14 Apr 2009
The film is a mildly entertaining diversion, light and fluffy, but conversely not very deep either. Billy is NOT a sympathetic character, as he wallows in self-indulgent wish fulfillment, including murdering his family, friends and co-workers.
The film serves mostly as a glimpse of England in the 60's, but the story doesn't really hold up so well. It is a VERY similar film to "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", which I feel is a better film.
If you're looking for a time capsule, this serves adequately.
