Can't overstate the political effect this had on me as a kid. Also a great storyline, a pretty good theme song, and ... mmm ... let's say, a variety of acting talent. as maverick filmmaking, though, not much competes with it.
Laughlin made it and distributed it himself, literally taking reels to theatres.
