Review of Big Eyes (2014) by Ryan K — 06 Feb 2015
What a story! This is a well directed and well acted film about the true story of a scam artist (Walter Keane) marrying a real artist (Margaret Keane) and then bullying, conning, and emotionally and psychologically abusing her into letting him take credit for all her paintings under the pretense that this was the only way the paintings would sell and that this was for the best of the family because it would make them the money they would need to survive and flourish.
Of course, once the lie was told and her paintings became incredibly successful, it became harder and harder for her to do anything about it, making her life pretty much a living nightmare. Tim Burton and the cast bring the story to life with flair and pizzazz and great emotional intensity.
