Review of Big Eyes (2014) by Rotten R — 23 Aug 2018
Big Eyes is a beautiful movie and a return to the 50's-60's period piece style that made Ed Wood one of Burton's best. Certainly not his greatest film nor his most ambitious, yet the film is genuine in telling a story that needed to be told and the actors involved all contribute equally to the remarkable tale.
If there's any real fault in the film it's that the critic side moments seem like they don't go anywhere (though this is a biopic and must have gone this way in real life) and that the film ends rather abruptly. I would have much preferred a visual epilogue as opposed to a static subtitled one.
But these minor issues don't mar an entirely enjoyable film, one which at times borders on a psychological thriller in unexpected ways!
