Review of Beyond the Gates (2016) by Guillaume H — 31 Dec 2016
Worth your time for Barbara Crampton who makes it more intriguing than it is. The acting between the two brothers is intended as awkward but comes off as stilted. The script is bare-boned, it could have gone so many places.
.. I know its tempting to say ''budget constraint'' but a better writer would have pulled it off with words, the good ones no more expensive than the bad. Also there are grating continuity errors that suggest something weirder is going on, but nope, was just holes in the script.
Still, It's Crampton's show and she deserves it. At least it looks good with its early 90's glow of lurid hot pink and neon blue, but its self consciousness doesnt go down as easily as it would have had if it had truly carried it's weight.
