Review of Beyond the Gates (2016) by D. M — 15 May 2017
While this movie pulls no punches about it, nostalgia only carries you so far. It rides the fence, being neither polished enough to take seriously nor goofy enough to revel in. Aside from some delightful bits of b-movie gore, the production leaves a lot to be desired.
Colored lights and fog machines make for a fairly lazy phantom-world, the ghost/demon/whatever people look like the lineup of a local black-metal band, and the mysterious shopkeeper kinda just looks like Jordan Klepper hosting a Halloween party.
