Review of Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010) by Juan V — 18 Mar 2012
Perhaps one of the best style oriented films I've seen in years. Fantastic blend of cinema's finest styles, with echoes of Jodorowsky's Holy Mountain, Kubrick's 2001, and Carpenter's Halloween.
A non-protracted story allows the audience to connect to it on their own, while pacing the film well enough to illustrate the plot. Coupled with a score that extenuates the film's almost pitch-perfect aesthetics, this is a great homage, as well as a great film.
You might not want try it if you don't like thinking about what you watch though.
